Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung has just directed the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to preside over and coordinate with relevant parties to urgently establish a task force for the implementation of the “Super Data Center” project in Ho Chi Minh City.
On October 15, the Government Office issued a notice conveying the conclusion of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung at a meeting on October 11, where he heard a report from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee regarding the “Super Data Center” project proposal.
Data infrastructure, including data centers and cloud computing, is one of the four key components of Vietnam’s national digital infrastructure
Welcoming the initiative of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the G42 Group investor consortium to research and propose the implementation of the “Super Data Center” project in Ho Chi Minh City, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung stated that the Government supports the policy of implementing digital infrastructure projects, digital transformation, and the application of advanced technologies such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence. This is in line with the spirit of Politburo Resolution No. 57 dated December 22, 2024, on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, reports from ministries and agencies indicate that current laws on investment, telecommunications, the digital technology industry, data, and personal data protection are relatively comprehensive and open, creating favorable conditions for the project’s implementation.
“The legal framework for digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity is continuously being developed and refined with a balanced approach between promoting the digital economy and attracting foreign investment, while ensuring cybersecurity, data security, and national sovereignty,” the Government Office’s notice clearly stated.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung assigned the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to lead and coordinate with relevant parties to urgently establish a project implementation task force. This task force will include representatives from the Ministries of Science & Technology, Public Security, National Defense, Finance, and Justice, as well as Ho Chi Minh City’s departments and the investor.
The “Super Data Center” project task force is responsible for accelerating the implementation schedule, proactively resolving any obstacles within its functions, duties, and assigned authority, in accordance with the law. Any issues beyond its authority are to be reported to the Prime Minister.
According to Chinhphu.vn, in a speech at the closing session of the First Party Congress of Ho Chi Minh City for the 2025-2030 term on October 15, Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, shared that the G42 Group from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is currently planning to invest nearly USD 2 billion in an AI super data center in the city.
